Seven Killed in Gondar Clashes

According to Wazema, five people were killed by stray bullets during a clash between Gondar residents and security forces on July 13, 2016. The clash escalated the following day, with reports of armed men from outside the city, such as Armaciho and Belesa, joining in. As a result of the conflict, hotels and some businesses were closed.

In another incident reported by Wazema, at least two people were killed and several others injured during a protest on August 5, 2016. This protest followed a previous conflict that occurred three weeks ago. Colonel Demeke Zewdu, a representative of the Wolkait Identity Committee, was arrested and was expected to appear in court on August 5. Many people gathered at the courthouse to observe, but a protest erupted when Colonel Demeke was not brought to court as scheduled.
