Armed men from the Murle tribe of South Sudan killed 18 civilians and kidnapped several children in Gambela, as reported by Wazema. The armed men launched their attack on the ethnic Agnuak neighborhood on March 10 and 11, 2017.
According to the report, the Murle men initiated the attack on Friday afternoon in Angela village, killing 6 people and abducting four children. On Saturday, they invaded Obowa village, killing 11 civilians and injuring two. Villagers claim that a total of 13 people were killed and 22 children were abducted. Additionally, the armed men also kidnapped children from Otiyowo village.
The armed men from the Murle tribe have repeatedly invaded Gambela, and the local population had heard rumors of a possible invasion prior to the raid.
