Federal prosecutors have filed lawsuits against 38 individuals in connection with the deadly conflict that took place in Ataye town, as reported by Wazema. The conflict, which lasted four days from April 4 to April 7, 2021, occurred between the North Shoa Zone and the Oromo administrative zone of the Amhara region, resulting in the loss of 80 lives. The conflict also led to extensive property damage, with millions of worth of property being affected, including the burning down of a church.
Wazema has also reported a similar conflict that took place in 2019, which caused tension within the community. However, the intervention of the Amhara security forces and the Federal defense force helped calm the situation at that time.
