More than 80 civilians were killed in the early hours of Tuesday, January 12, 2021, in Daletti woreda of the Metekel zone in Benishangul-Gumuz, according to a report by Al Jazeera, which cited the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC). The victims ranged in age from two years old to 45 years old, and the perpetrators of the attack have not yet been confirmed.
Al Jazeera interviewed a spokesperson and senior advisor from the EHRC, who confirmed that 207 people had died in a single attack on December 23, 2020.
