Gunmen opened fire in Illamo village in Horo Guduru of Western Oromia, killing nine civilians on Sunday, July 11, 2021, as reported by Wazema. Among the victims were five men and four women. Additionally, four children were kidnapped, and six women sustained fatal injuries. Residents of the village claimed that the Oromo Liberation Army was responsible for the attack.
Witnesses who spoke to Wazema stated that there were no regional security forces present in the area to protect the people. They also reported that they have been subjected to repeated attacks and robberies by armed groups hiding in the nearby forest.
