TPLF Killed Over 200 in Afar: Children More than 100

Two hundred displaced people who were sheltering in a health facility and a school in Afar were killed in TPLF’s attack on August 5, 2021, as confirmed by a statement from UNICEF. The statement further reveals that more than 100 of the victims were children. The ongoing conflict with Tigray Forces has led to the displacement of thousands of families, exacerbating the dire situation.

In addition, Tigray forces have also destroyed food supplies, worsening the existing food insecurity in Afar. According to UNICEF, approximately 400,000 people, including 100,000 children, are currently living in conditions resembling famine in Tigray. Furthermore, four million people in Tigray and the neighboring regions of Amhara and Afar are facing either a crisis or an emergency level of food insecurity.
