Eight Civilians Killed by South Sudan’s Murle Gunmen in Gambela

South Sudan’s Murle tribe gunmen killed eight people and injured five in an attack they launched in Bakankan kebele, located in Akobo woreda of Nuer Zone, as reported by Addis Standard, quoting Gambela region’s police commissioner.

The commissioner stated that the long and porous border enables the gunmen to freely move in and out of the region. In the previous month, Murle tribe gunmen kidnapped two children, killed a police officer, and stole 71 heads of cattle. The commissioner also mentioned that a couple of years ago, the gunmen killed 170 people, abducted dozens of children, and took 2000 cattle.

According to the report, the region’s special forces and militias are working to maintain peace. The commissioner urged the community to remain vigilant and report any movements of the gunmen.
