Armed men from the Murle tribe of South Sudan launched an attack on the Dima refugee camp, abducting three children on February 9, 2022, as reported by Addis Standard. During the attack, one person was killed and two others were injured.
Ugetu Ading, the Head of the Region’s Press Secretariat, informed Addis Standard that the regional forces are being deployed to pursue the armed men, and he called for cooperation from the community.
Ethiopia shares an open border with South Sudan, and the Murle armed men have been repeatedly raiding Gambela. According to the Region’s police commission, in the previous month, eight people were killed and five others were injured when the Murle attacked Bakankan kebele in Akobo Woreda.
