Clashes Near Gambela Killed One and Displaced 9500

Militants from South Sudan crossed the border and killed one person, displacing 9,500 individuals from Lare and Jikao woredas of Nuer Zone near the Ethio-South Sudan border, as reported by Addis Standard. The incursion occurred due to clashes between the South Sudan Government and its opposition army.

The militants engaged in looting properties, with a significant number of displaced individuals being women and children. Ugutu Ading, the region’s press secretariat office, informed Addis Standard that security forces have been deployed to prevent further border crossings.

The report also featured a statement from the deputy administrator of Lara Woreda in Nuer Zone, who urged relevant government and non-governmental entities to extend assistance to the displaced community. The people of the zone have appealed to the government for a lasting solution to address the recurring incursions by South Sudanese militias. The report recalled that in January, eight people were killed by militias crossing the border.
