An armed group killed a Segen woreda official, a militia, and three civilians in the Konso zone, as reported by Addis Standard. According to Ato Gadisa Karo, the woreda’s head of peace and security, the perpetrators are armed groups based in the neighboring Derashe special woreda.
He told Addis Standard that after the Segen Area People’s Zone became defunct, kebeles bordering Derashe special woredas have been under frequent attacks by the armed groups. In just the last couple of weeks, 1900 people were displaced from Darse, Segen Genet, and Mulata Dugaya kebeles. He claims that Derashe woreda aims to take over the three kebeles with force. However, the Derashe woreda security office denies the accusation.
