Oromia region’s special forces killed several people in Ada Berga woreda of the West Shoa zone on April 29, 2022, as reported by BBC Amharic, quoting residents. The head of Oromia region’s security denied the accusation.
According to residents who spoke with BBC Amharic, the special force members killed civilians one day after at least 10 of their own members were killed in an ambush. A person from Jimata kebele said that on Friday, the special forces began searching homes and started killing people. “We could see bodies in the yards and even on the main streets,” he added. Another resident said that while conducting their search, the special forces were accusing the people of hiding Shene (Oromo Liberation Army).
The report does not provide a confirmed number of deaths. However, residents estimated that between 21 and 40 people were killed. The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) claimed 46 deaths and listed the names of 15 individuals. On the other hand, the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) reported 15 civilian deaths.
BBC’s efforts to reach out to the federal government communication or the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission regarding the story were unsuccessful.
