Gunmen Killed Civilians in Agamsa, Horo Guduru

According to a report by BBC Amharic, armed men killed over 50 people in Agamsa town, located in Amuro Woreda, in Horo Guduro on August 20, 2022. Some residents claimed to have seen over 100 dead bodies, although the exact number of deaths was not confirmed. The gunmen also looted the town, and many people are still hiding in the woods, fearing for their lives.

As per the report, some residents stated that Fano militias were responsible for the killings in Agamsa. Residents recounted that first, the regional security forces left the town, followed by the arrival of members of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). Once the OLA departed, Fano militias entered the town and began attacking individuals whom they accused of collaborating with the OLA.

The report highlights that BBC Amharic was unable to independently verify these allegations with other sources. However, regional authorities have previously acknowledged that both OLA and Fano militias have been involved in ethnically motivated attacks.
