Residents informed Addis Maleda that unknown armed men have killed seven people within the last two weeks in Sibu Suree woreda, Eastern Wollega zone of the Oromia region. These victims had sought refuge in a shelter after fleeing from attacks by the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). They were tragically killed while they returned to their farms to collect their harvest.
According to the residents, the zone’s peace remains precarious. Despite the presence of the federal force in Sibu Suree and nearby woredas, OLA continues to appear in various parts of the area, as reported by Addis Maleda.
The report also highlights previous incidents of people being abducted in Sibu Suree and Gobu Seyu woredas 45 days ago, with the zonal administrator attributing these kidnappings to OLA/Shene.
Currently, more than 20,000 displaced individuals are residing in temporary shelters in Sibu Suree and Neno Woredas, with very limited assistance. These individuals are uncertain about when their villages will be safe enough for them to return. Local authorities, as stated in the report, confirm that OLA abducts civilians, loots properties, and causes displacement in woredas where regional security forces are unable to respond promptly.
