Tigray security forces killed Haile Hayalneh, a 35-year-old farmer, by beating him to death, according to a report by BBC Amharic. Authorities allege that Haile was involved in unlawful arms dealing, a claim his family firmly denies.
Family members told the BBC that Haile was arrested based on a tip obtained through a coerced confession. They stated that he was subjected to severe beatings by security forces in an attempt to force him to admit to arms trafficking. He later died on the way to the hospital.
Reports of armed exchanges and increased crime prevail in Tigray following the cessation of hostilities.
