Over 76,000 people in Afar have fled their homes and sought refuge in temporary shelters following the attacks by the TPLF in the region, as reported by Wazema. These individuals were forced to hide in various locations when the conflict erupted between the TPLF, the federal government, and local militias along the bordering areas of the Tigray Region.
Ato Aydesis Yasin, the Director of Afar Disaster Risk Reduction and Early Warning, informed Wazema that there are currently nine shelters, and the number of people seeking refuge in these shelters continues to increase. He stated that, apart from a shortage of food for children, they have not encountered any significant problems thus far.
