Eyewitnesses informed Wazema Radio that the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) carried out an attack, resulting in the deaths of over 20 individuals in Kara Kore town and the surrounding rural villages in North Shoa. The attack, initiated by OLA, also known as Shene, began on the night of March 19, 2021, and continued the following day, with the possibility of the death toll increasing.
Wazema’s report reveals that due to the intense fighting, particularly in a location called Chire, the community faced difficulties in retrieving the bodies of the deceased. Ataye town was reportedly surrounded by OLA, causing fear among the residents who have been subjected to repeated attacks.
Residents have stated that the attack occurred after the relocation of Amhara regional forces to other areas. However, sources from Wazema indicate that regional forces from North Wollo are being deployed to the affected area.
