Government Forces Killed About 100 Protestors in Amhara

According to Wazema, more than 50 civilians were killed in Bahir Dar during a government crackdown that followed a large protest on August 4, 2016. The protests were widespread, occurring in six out of the 11 zones of the Amhara region, resulting in a total of 99 reported civilian deaths.

The report highlights that the majority of the fatalities occurred in Bahir Dar, while other areas such as Gondar, Debre Tabor, Finote Selam, Debre Markos, Woreta, Adet, Debre Work, Chagni, Bure, Dangla, Ayba, Armachiho Danish, Beaker, Sahwura, and western Gojam also witnessed the loss of civilian lives.
