Ethiopia Watch was founded by a team of Ethiopian volunteers alarmed by the increase in violence against civilians in Ethiopia, the lack of accountability, and the limited documentation of ethnically based attacks.

We are set to document atrocities committed against civilians throughout the country and push for accountability. We believe that shedding light on the victims recognizes the lives we have lost. Documenting atrocities in an accessible manner is also critical for seeking accountability.
Our main goal is to document violence in Ethiopia to support efforts towards bringing justice to the victims by holding perpetrators, as well as authorities who fail to provide protection, accountable.
Over the past decades, deadly ethnic conflicts appeared to have increased in Ethiopia. Loss of lives, displacements and destruction of livelihood have been causing unimaginable pain and suffering to communities especially in Somali, Oromia, Benishangul and Southern Nations and Nationalities Peoples Regional States.
In November 2020, Tigray People Liberation Front, (TPLF) engaged the Federal Government in a devastating war resulting in huge loss of civilian lives, gender based violence and infrastructural damage in Afar, Amhara and Tigray Regional States.
Government authorities, media, and human right institutions have reported on the atrocities in their respective platforms. Ethiopia Watch has put together the reports in one place to help us fully grasp the scale of the situation.
