Addis Standard reported that at least a dozen civilians were killed in a shooting incident that occurred during a talk between Borana Oromos, Somali Garee, and members of the federal army at Bekele Molla Hotel in Moyale town, Oromia.
The meeting aimed to discuss the mechanism for handing over the town’s security from the regional forces to the federal army, and the decision to proceed with the handover was made earlier in the afternoon.
The specific cause of the shootout was not known at the time of the report. However, it came shortly after last week’s incident, where 21 people were killed in a renewed clash between the Boranas and the Garees. These two groups have been engaged in a longstanding dispute over the city of Moyale town.
