Eye witnesses informed Addis Maleda that 20 civilians were killed in Boset woredas of East Shoa Zone in Oromia, allegedly by the Oromo Liberation Army or Shene. According to three residents who spoke to Addis Maleda, the members of Shene, coming from a locality called Hamsa’amist, carried out the massacre over two consecutive days while also engaging in looting. The residents expressed their sadness, stating that no government authorities came to their rescue or assessed the situation following the violent incidents. They further expressed their dismay that the massacre did not receive national media coverage.
The report highlights that Boset has been home to Ethnic Amharas for many years and is renowned for its orange production. This is not the first time that Shene has attacked this specific woreda. Shene has previously invaded the neighboring Minjar area, causing significant losses by looting livestock estimated to be valued at over 700k in recent incidents.
