According to Addis Maleda’s report, Shene launched a heavy artillery attack on the kebeles of Shiro and Jelo in Amaro Special Woreda, SNNPR, on July 20, 2022. Eyewitnesses reported that two civilians in Shiro Kebele lost their lives as a result of serious injuries sustained during the attack. The number of casualties is likely to increase.
The report highlights that the area had only around 30 National Defense Force members stationed there, who reportedly fled when Shene launched the attack. The militants also raided the communities’ livestock, taking more than 70 animals. The atrocities were ongoing at the time of the report.
Local residents are calling on the Federal Government to strengthen the defense force to ensure the community’s protection. They are also demanding government attention to the Dilla-Amaro road, which has been impassable for the past seven years.
